SUSTAINABILITY
Mumsie is always thinking about the world we're leaving for our little ones
We're doing our part to make sure it's a bright and sustainable one for our little darlings. At The Mumsie, every day we are learning, building on and striving to improve our environmental impact. Our unique babywearing overalls are made to be a bit gentler for the planet with materials sourced responsibly and production processes that minimise waste. You can feel good knowing you're not just carrying your baby, but also supporting a small business that is passionate about making a difference. Let's make the world a better place, one sustainable baby wearing step at a time.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
Ever since the conception of The Mumsie, sustainability has been a conscious part of our business plan. When Janneke first came up with the idea,
her 3 month baby in arms, she envisaged "only fully organic denim" for her brand. Little did she know what lie ahead as she delved naively into the crazy world of fashion manufacturing. Over the years the overwhelming growth of the brand has allowed us to work towards this vision as we continue our environmentally conscious journey. We are committed to reducing our impact on the planet and making products that are both functional and sustainable, and have a longer life.. that can be worn throughout pregnancy, postpartum, for baby wearing and toddler wrangling and also without baby just as the coolest pair of overalls you ever did wear!
We have been working hard with our manufacturers to source and experiment with durable, sustainable and organic fabrics. With each new batch more of our styles are already made with a luxe sustainable denim that feels amazing to wear but also has been made with a blend of cotton and recycled poly Ecovero.
We also have some exciting new styles in development and production that are GOTS certified organic, experimenting with 100% biodegradable denim, and natural dyes made with Ceylon tea.. watch this space.
Our manufacturers work alongside the Sustainable Apparel Coalition using the Higg Index to measure all factors of production from water and chemical use to waste management, and each year our manufacturer's statistics continue to improve.
Our mumsies are being made with a wash that uses 50% less water, 60% less steam and 60% less energy than compared to the average production method.
CONSCIOUS PACKAGING
We have made a commitment to using compostable bags for both postage and packaging of all our products.
Our mumsies all come in a reusable calico bag that can be worn as a backpack or can be repurposed for countless parenting purposes from a kids swimming bag, to a library book bag, throw it over your shoulder or hang it on your pram.
When packing in satchels for shipment we currently use No Issue recycled mailers.
Our manufacturers package individual mumsies into biodegradable satchels with Standard EN 13432 for transportation.
From printing your label to the love heart tag you find on your mumsie, where possible we are transitioning to recycled paper and card conforming to standard EN 13432 : 2000.
ETHICALLY MADE
At Mumsie, we take pride in offering products
that are not only of the highest quality, but also ALL ethically made.
What is ethically made and why do we value it? Being ethically made means focusing strongly on improving the social aspects around production, such as how the factories operate, how employees are treated and paid. Ethically made also means, fairly produced, Fairtrade, and socially responsible. Having strong relationships with our manufacturers helps us ensure we are producing the best product and not at the cost of poor living conditions and unfair wages. We believe in fair labour practices and source our materials from responsible suppliers, ensuring that our products are made with the well-being of both people and the planet in mind.

The UN has outlined 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which represent an urgent call for action by all countries, both developed and developing, to form a global partnership. These goals acknowledge that the eradication of poverty and other forms of deprivation must be accompanied by strategies that enhance health and education, reduce inequality, promote economic growth, address climate change, and preserve our oceans and forests. The organization Mumsie has committed to working on goals 8, 9, 11, and 12. For more information about the 17 goals, please click here.
