When you're carrying your baby, nothing matters more than doing it safely. Here's how the mumsie is designed and tested, and how to wear it with confidence. Please read this alongside the safety instructions and watch the how-to videos before your first carry.

The mumsie looks like any pair of overalls, but the bib is shaped to support your baby. It's recognised by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as hip-healthy when worn as directed. The bib encourages baby's knees to sit higher than their bottom - the natural "M" position - to support healthy hip development, especially in younger babies. The jersey sling adds another layer of soft support around their legs, holding them close behind the back and snug against your chest.

From around four months, once baby has developed head control and their legs can sit in a hip-healthy "M" position. For newborns, please wait until that head control has developed before carrying. Read the safety instructions and watch the how-to videos first.

The mumsie is safety tested for babywearing up to 18kg (around 39lbs), and the shoulder clips are weight tested to 70kg each. [Flag: the safety warning below states "not recommended over 14kg" - please confirm one consistent figure.] With heavier babies, take care, experiment with the shoulder pads and sling-tie methods for comfort, and always use your best judgement. The way you use your mumsie will change as baby grows - longer snuggles when they're small, shorter and more frequent carries once they're older and on the move.

The mumsie has been independently tested to meet the strict regulations set out for the United States and European safety standards. There are no safety standards set by the Australian government for baby carriers, so the mumsie has been carefully designed to meet a range of international baby-carrier recommendations. The shoulder clips are made from industrial-grade acetal and weight tested to 70kg each. Every mumsie is made with premium fabrics and real care. If you're ever not happy with the quality, contact us and we'll repair or replace it (within reason).

Keep the sling on at all times while baby is younger - it adds essential back support and security. Follow the safety instructions and the TICKS guide for safe babywearing and toddlerwearing.

As with all baby carriers, please take care and use your best judgement to keep your child safe.

Keep baby secure. Infants can slip through the side leg opening. Always take the time to secure baby carefully.
Check the fasteners are in working order and secured with every use.
Tie the sling firmly and securely behind baby, with enough room for them to wriggle and turn their head. Take care when moving, leaning or walking - place a hand behind baby when leaning, and bend at the knees, not the waist.
Not recommended for infants over 14kg. [Flag: confirm against the 18kg figure above.] Extra care for infants under four months or under 5kg - smaller, younger babies can suffocate in baby carriers.
Keep airways clear. Make sure baby isn't pressed against you in a way that restricts breathing, their head is close enough to kiss, they can turn their head freely, and their face is visible and unobstructed at all times.
When breastfeeding in the carrier, constantly monitor baby's breathing and return them high on your chest as soon as they've finished. Never let baby sleep at the breast while being worn.
Outward-facing carrying is not recommended. Never carry baby without the sling attached and baby safely secured.
Always follow the TICKS guide. Any accident from falling or suffocation is at the responsibility of the adult using the carrier.

T - Tight: the sling should be tight enough to hug baby close to you.
I - In view at all times: you should always see baby's face with a glance down.
C - Close enough to kiss: tip your head forward and you should reach baby's head.
K - Keep chin off the chest: never let baby curl so their chin is forced onto their chest, as it can restrict breathing.
S - Supported back: baby's back should be supported in a natural position, tummy and chest against you.

Yes, 100%. Every mumsie is designed with love in Noosa and made with great care in Sri Lanka, China and Pakistan.. Ethical standards are a top priority - staff are paid fairly, with no forced labour - and everything is made with premium fabrics built to last.

We're always working at it. Orders ship in fully compostable bags wherever possible, and we choose sustainable options across the business. On the product side, we're constantly trialling new textiles - some styles are now 100% organic denim, alongside other natural fibres we're excited about. As a small, mostly direct-to-customer business, buying from us also cuts the "food miles" on your mumsie.

Yes, to most countries. Duties and taxes charged by your country's customs are the buyer's responsibility and aren't refundable by The Mumsie, so it's worth checking what might apply before you order. (See the US update below.)

For US orders, all duties and taxes are now pre-paid before your mumsie arrives, and sent via UPS - so there's nothing to pay on delivery. If your experience is ever different, please tell us; we want to stay as transparent as we can.

You'll get a tracking number with our carrier, Australia Post, which updates once your order's on its way. Once it lands in your country, the same number works with the local carrier - US customers can track via USPS, for example.

The item isn't in our warehouse yet, but we'll ship it as soon as it arrives (the dispatch date is when we expect it to leave us). If you order a pre-order item alongside in-stock items, everything ships together when the pre-order lands. Need the in-stock items sooner? Place a separate order.
